Box Office Favorites for 2016

Box Office Favorites for 2016 Daphne
There were many movies in 2016 that hit the big screen hard. As we are starting 2017 and leaving 2016 behind us, there are a few movies that should be notated for really taking the box office by storm. For years, movies have set out to be the latest and greatest. Some of the biggest box office hits may be surprising while others are expected. While most of the movies that have seemed to have been on the big box office hit list are family movies, there are some classics in the top grossing movies of 2016 as well.

Remakes, Sequels and Reboots

The Legend of Tarzan along with Ghostbusters made it to the top 25. Both are classics remade and grossed over $125,000,000. The remake of Pete’s Dragon also did well, breathing new life into a film that has been forgotten by many people today and Jungle Book took us all back to our childhood as we enjoyed the classic story we grew up loving.

Animated Giants

Finding Dory seemed to be the animated favorite for most people in 2016. The Angry Birds movie made it to the list but Sausage Party fell just under the top 25. One of the newest movies, Sing, has made its’ way as a heavy hitter along with Disney’s end of the year New Release Moana. One film that many people loved was Zootopia, which gave viewers a look into a world of animals along with a little bit of mystery and crime solving!

From Comic Book to Big Screen

Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice also made the top mark in the top ten as well Suicide Squad, Doctor Strange, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Out of The Shadows. Deadpool was a crowd pleaser and did amazingly well at the Box office considering it was rated R and did not get ticket sales from the younger comic book fans. Captain America: Civil War brought many characters from the Marvel universe head to head in one fight among the heroes.

Star Wars & Harry Potter Continue to Dominate

Possible two of the top movies of the year prove that once moviegoers find a story they love, they just want more and more of it. This was proven with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them; a story that takes place in the same wizarding world as Harry Potter, but takes places years before the stories we know and love from the Harry Potter series. More proof that we tend to be loyal to the movie franchises once they grab our hearts is the instant success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now that Disney has taken over Star Wars, we are all waiting in anticipation for the many Star Wars movie that are scheduled to be in our big screen futures.
