If you drive a Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge vehicle, then you are already familiar with the Uconnect system. While this infotainment system has always delivered connectivity and entertainment with ease, the all-new fourth generation will show numerous improvements. The newest system is making its debut on the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Chrysler 300, with other models to follow.
General Improvements of Uconnect
As with all other generations of Uconnect, the newest fourth generation will come with a faster startup time and more processing power to deliver a better experience. There is also enhanced support for smartphone integrations, sharper graphics, vivid imagery, and multitouch gestures on the new 8.4-inch touchscreen.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
Part of the fourth generation of Uconnect is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Between these two systems, nearly every smartphone user will be able to seamlessly connect their device to their vehicle. Apple CarPlay puts your iPhone’s systems and information on the Uconnect display. You can listen to music, receive or send messages, make calls, and get directions that are optimized for traffic. You can even access your third-party audio apps without risking distraction by fiddling with your phone.
Android Auto is similar but works with Android smartphones. It shares information while you are driving and includes on-demand access to over 30 million songs via Google Play Music. It also offers Google Maps complete with free voice-guided navigation, lane guidance, and live traffic information. You can also use Android Auto to send and receive messages, make phone calls, or use Google to search with voice commands without taking your hands off the wheel. You can also access popular content as well as apps on the Uconnect screen.
Jeep Off-Road Pages
The latest version of Uconnect in the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the Uconnect 8.4 system, and the touchscreen now features Off-Road Pages. These give you the most important information for off-roading, including the transfer-case position, rear differential lock, and current steering angle for your drivetrain. They also include the Selec-Terrain setting; wheel articulation for suspension; and gauges for things like oil pressure, battery voltage, transmission temperature, oil temperature, and coolant temperature.
