Pharaoh’s Mystic Society Mardi Gras Parade
The Pharaoh’s Mystic Society was established in 1985 in Mobile, Alabama. This year marks the 32nd annual parade for the society that will take place on February 11, 2017, the second night of Mardi Gras in downtown Mobile. This years theme is the Warriors of Horus. He was the Egyptian God of sky and kingship. The Pharaoh’s will have eight floats in the parade.
Conde Explorers Mardi Gras Parade
The Conde Explorers Mardi Gras Parade has been in business since 2004 and running in the parade since 2005. Their appearance this year will be on February 11, 2017 after the Pharaoah’s. The organization plans on having 11 different floats that will coincide with this year’s theme of Exploring a Night at the Movies. The Explorers will also unveil their newly redesigned emblem float to the crowd.
Order of the Polka Dots Mardi Gras Parade
The Order of the Polka Dots was an organization created in 1949 by 20 women. When they took part in the parade in 1950, they were the first ladies’ group to be welcomed to the event. This years theme is Reflections of Goddesses, and they are scheduled to partake in the parade on February 16, 2017. The organization has nine officers that are representations of the Greek Muses. Observers of the event can expect to see fifteen floats as the group marches.
Order of the Inca Mardi Gras Parade
The Order of the Inca were established in 1956, though they did not participate in the Mobile Mardi Gras parades until 1975, their first ball was held i n 1957. This year’s theme will be “That’s What I Like About the South, too”. Fourteen floats will grace the parade this year, as Incan temples, roll their way through the parade route on February 17, 2017.
Floral Parade
The Floral Parade is the only one specifically for kids. It is also the only one that run’s the parade routes twice, once on February 25 at noon and again on February 25 at noon as well. This year’s theme will be a Cavalcade of Coincidence and will include the MCA Juvenile Court as well as a King and Queen within the sixteen floats that are scheduled to make an appearance.
The 2017 Mobile Mardi Gras parades offer a wide variety of enjoyment for adults and children alike. The Mardi Gras celebration in and around Daphne, Alabama is proof that you do not have to live in or visit New Orleans to participate in Mardi Gras.
