Compare the 2016 Jeep Cherokee to the previous model year, and you will notice several important changes. Overall, the SUV is the same popular model from an automaker known for manufacturing highly capable off-roading vehicles that can handle daily drives as well.
Upgraded Jeep Cherokee Technology
The biggest changes for the 2016 Cherokee come in the form of technological upgrades. They specifically affect any model that you configure with the Uconnect system with its 8.4-inch touchscreen. These models are now compatible with Siri Eyes Free. There is also a new menu bar with drag-and-drop features for convenience. Finally, the latest version of the system adds a Do Not Disturb feature that will automatically generate replies to your text messages and send any phone calls right to your voicemail.
Familiar Powertrain in the Cherokee
The Techanical systems in the 2016 Cherokee are familiar since the previous model’s powertrain and transmission were so popular. This Jeep still comes standard with the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 184 horsepower and a torque of 171 pound-feet. Most trims also let you upgrade to the 271-horsepower, 239 pound-foot 3.2-liter V6. All models come with a 9-speed automatic transmission that boosts performance and fuel economy. There is also the option of front-wheel drive or 4WD on most trims, and the Active Drive I 4WD system has a Selec-Terrain dial that lets you select the terrain mode you need. There is also an Active Drive II 4WD System with a locking rear differential and low-range gearing.
